The history of Presentation Convent High school goes back to the year 1936, when the Congregation of the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters of the Immaculate Conception rented a house in Comba and started the school apostolate. The rental fees being too lofty, the Sisters shifted to a benefactorâs house in Margao which with the passage of time was also found to be scarce to meet the demands of the people.
The then chief of the jail, was cordial enough to give legroom to the Sisters to conduct classes in the jail. He offered three rooms and a hall for the Sisters to have regular classes for the students. Interestingly the prison cells were on the ground floor and the school functioned on the first floor.
On 11 July 1940, Miss Maria Virginia (a retired Portuguese Primary Teacher) along with her sister Miss Maria Maximiana Pacheco â Sisters of late Sr. Bemvinda do Menino Jesus, seeing the plight of the Sisters offered their house and property in Margao Goa to start a school named “Colegio de Nossa Senhora da Apresentacao” today known as Presentation Convent. The construction of the building was accomplished in the year 1944.
In 1945 when the inspecting committee demanded a playground as a requirement for the students, the Sisters brought an adjoining plot. Further with the intention of providing the best of infrastructure to the growing number of students the school was shifted to the new premises at Ambaji, Fatorda on the 4th of October 2014.
